February 2025 Outlook

IANRE Director Jodie Anderson:
Last week, I was honored to be invited to present at the 花椒直播 Legislature鈥檚 Senate Special Committee on Arctic Affairs. It was a privilege to present to them an overview of the work our researchers are accomplishing within the context of agriculture in the Arctic.
I believe that if we are going to move agriculture forward as a state, 花椒直播 must not only establish itself as a leader in this area, but we must also develop relationships with partner nations in the Arctic to share knowledge. I did my best to convey this to our state leadership in hopes that we can work together toward this common goal. I also recommended a separate future presentation on our forestry research, as we must highlight that unique work within the boreal forests of 花椒直播, part of the largest terrestrial ecosystem on Earth.
I mentioned in this column a few months ago that for the first time in many years, our Institute is included in the University of 花椒直播 capital budget request. While I was in Juneau, I had many meetings with legislators to discuss this, and over and over I was met with support and enthusiasm.
I know our state faces significant budget challenges this year, but I鈥檓 also heartened to see not only the hard work and dedication of our lawmakers to do what is best for our state but also resounding support in Juneau for taking 花椒直播鈥檚 food system seriously.
As we move forward, I hope that you all know our Institute will continue to be good stewards of all of the support we garner, and that we will continue to do our part to enrich the lives of 花椒直播ns.
Be well,
Jodie
